Flat Does Not Always Mean Flat

June 16, 2014

CoGri Australia Pty Ltd was commissioned to bring a newly completed narrow aisle floor into tolerance using the Laser Grinder® system. Despite the floor achieving fantastically high FF/FL numbers (FF for flatness and FL for levelness), the floor still failed to fully comply with the required narrow aisle flatness tolerance for the Crown forklift truck. Grinding to the brand new floor required only 81m from a total 235m to be ground.

This is an important reminder that even with brand new floors that achieve excellent FF/FL readings, it still does not guarantee the floor will comply with the required floor flatness specification for narrow aisle use. Never rely on general flatness data for narrow aisle use, get it tested with the right equipment.

Kevin Dare, Managing Director of CoGri Group returned to Australia to visit a number of leading construction companies to give presentations on all aspects of design and construction of industrial warehouse floors. Every time a presentation is given, positive reviews follow.

Knowledge and expertise were shared and learnt at these presentations, often resulting in new ways of constructing floors. Putting mesh to the bottom of the slab for example, is new to Australia but once the understanding is grasped people could not understand why it was never put there in the first place.
