VNA Floor Grinding

June 17, 2014

Concrete Grinding Ltd (CG) has over 20 years experience in superflat VNA floor grinding and have developed their own and unique patented Laser Grinder® that guarantees to achieve international industry standards TR34 and TR34 Appendix C, CEN 15620, DIN 15185, ACI Fmin100 and VDMA guideline.

The Laser Grinder® also has total flexibility for grinding options to suit all VNA forklift trucks, and is capable of achieving bespoke specifications tailored to clients requirements. With a fleet of Laser Grinders located worldwide, CG has been able to offer their services at a local level. In the last few months, CG has been upgrading warehouse floors to very narrow aisle (VNA) in the UK, France, Ireland and South Korea amongst other locations around the globe.

In Lutterworth, UK, CG carried out 3 wheel track grinding to 7 aisles at 104 meters long each to DM2 specification for a furniture and beds manufacturer. The warehouse had yet to have the racking erected. CG also repaired 2 existing steel armoured joints so the Crown truck’s wheels were not damaged during movement up/down the aisles.

Working for their partner in France, Promadis, CG carried out 3 wheel track grinding at a facility in Puiseux, North of Paris, for a French company offering clipped solutions for automotive, industry and buildings. Unlike most jobs, this warehouse floor had a topping on the concrete which CG had no history of how hard or what type it was so the team had to take this into consideration at planning stage. CG ground 7 aisles, each at 37meters long, to DM3 specification.

The Laser Grinder® XPT (‘Xtra Precision Technology’, developed to provide clients with the ultraflat floors for maximum truck performance) was in operation at a small facility in Arklow, Ireland, where 5 aisles were ground whole aisle width to DM2. Working directly for the French pharmaceutical firm, the team worked double shifts covering days and nights to meet with the client’s critical deadline. Throughout the contract the warehouse was closed down to all employees so the technicians could continuously work on the aisles. The Laser Grinder® and Laser Grinder® XPT are the perfect choice for food and pharmaceutical facilities as the wet, vacuum-enclosed grinding process is free from airborne dust and is clean enough to work alongside fully stocked racks. This meant there was no need to cover stock on racking in adjacent aisles during VNA floor grinding. Face Consultants Ltd carried out an initial Profileograph survey of the warehouse during phase 1 in 2012 and once the VNA floor grinding work was completed, a final Profileograph survey confirmed the floor passed DM2 Spec without any problems.

In South Korea, CG worked for CoGri Korea, on behalf of their client, a Korean online auction and shopping website. On arrival the team ground 5 whole aisle widths, within narrow aisles of 41 meter. As the warehouse was fully operational, CG worked day shifts including weekends to grind the aisles to TR34 CAT 1 specification. Prior to VNA floor grinding, CG provided advice and a schedule of areas within the aisles that needed filling with screed before they could be ground, as the existing floor flatness was very poor. CoGri Korea then carried out this work prior to CG’s arrival.
